Chennai: Chennai’s G. Akash (Jawahar Vidyalaya) and P. Michelle Catherina (Good Shepherd School) claimed the Annapragada Trophy and Nivarthi Trophy respectively for men and women at the end of the final round of the Jawahar Vidyalaya Tamil Nadu under-25 chess championships, organized by the Sports Promotion Foundation and Tamil Nadu State Chess Association, here on Sunday.

The Tennetti Venugopal Trophy for the best played game in the tournament was awarded to Akash for his bold and inventive play against R.A. Pradeep Kumar.

International Master Manuel Aaron, Arjuna Awardee and Observer for Chess, Government of India, was the chief guest and A. Surya Narayana Rao, Secretary and Correspondent, Jawahar Vidyalaya presided.

Final standings (top six): Men: 1.G. Akash (Chennai) 8 points. 2. Lakshmi Narayanan (Dindigul) 7, 3. D.S. Shashank (Chennai) 7, 4. J. Arjun (Chennai) 7, 5. M. Siddarth, 6. Ajay Srikanth (Chennai) 6.5.

Women: 1. Michelle Catherina (Chennai) 7.5 points, 2. V. Janu (Tiruvallur) 7, 3. S.V. Sathya Priya (Salem) 6.5, 4. G.K. Monisha (Chennai).

5. M. Khushboo (Tiruvallur) 6, 6. C.H. Savetha (Chennai) 6 points.
