: Former Indian champion B. Adhiban scored an enterprising victory over Lu Shanglei of China to join the leaders platform after seven rounds in the Chennai Super Kings International Grandmaster chess tournament here on Saturday.
Adhiban and Wan Yunguo of China joined M.R. Lalith Babu and Henrik Teske of Germany in the lead with six points.
Fourteen players are tied for fifth place with 5.5 points.
The top board featured a hard-fought 78-move draw, with Lalith Babu having to perpetually check the black king of Teske to draw a queen ending.
Sacrificing a pawn, the Chennai player used his major pieces and knight for an attack which helped him win against Lu Shanglei in 26 moves.
Swapnil Dhopade drew with Grandmaster Dzhumaev to keep his chances of a Grandmaster norm alive.
In the upsets corner, Mumbai International Master Rahul Shetty defeated American Grandmaster Ziatdinov in 42 moves with the white pieces.
