The on-field demise of D. Venkatesh has forced the Karnataka State Football Association into swift action. Its president A.R. Khaleel on Thursday announced that the KSFA would buy an ambulance and station it permanently at the Football Stadium.

Venkatesh, who collapsed to the ground while in action during an ‘A' division match and died, had to be taken to hospital in an auto-rickshaw by his team-mates.

A team representing the KSFA and the Bangalore District Football Association visited Venkatesh's family on Thursday afternoon with the former offering Rs.1 lakh in compensation and the latter Rs. 10,000. However, angry friends and neighbours of the deceased refused to allow the compensation to be accepted.

Venkatesh was buried in the evening with over a 1000 people attending the ceremony.
