GUWAHATI: Lajong FC coach Stanley Rozario said his team showed remarkable spirit in beating Churchill s in the semifinals of the Federation Cup.

“I told my boys attack was the only way to win,” said Rozario after the match. “We were all over attacking and defending with equal intensity and the win over Churchill Brothers now gives my team a realistic chance to win the title,” said the coach of the Shillong side that also made its I-League debut earlier in the season.

Lajong FC custodian Gumpe Rime, who is the senior-most player of the side, said his team succeeded by effectively stopping the Churchill striker Odafa. “It feels nice that I could judge and stop his penalty attempt. This enhanced my teams desire to win,” he said.

Churchill Bothers closed themselves up in the dressing room after the loss. Coach Carlos Pereira said his “opponents played well and deserved to win.”

Its hopes of making the maiden Fed Cup final having dissipated, Carlos said his side would go back home and focus on defending the I-League title. —Principal Correspondent
