Chennai: The Volkswagen Polo Cup India will see 20 drivers compete in a series of six races between May and December this year.
The first race of the season will be held in Pune, followed by races in Coimbatore and Chennai.
The 20 racers have been shortlisted from over 1,100 entries through a selection process that included racing on go-karts and Race Polos. Five of them — Alisha Abdullah, Saran Vikram, Vishnu Prasad, Vikash Anand and Gokul Krishna — are from Chennai.
Vikash Anand, the JK Tyre junior champion, is the youngest of the lot at 15 while Gokul, at 22, is the oldest.
The qualifiers will be conducted on Saturdays while the actual race will take place on Sundays, with the weekend format being followed for all races of the Cup.
