In a landmark judgment, the Supreme Court has declared illegal the use of narco-analysis, brain-mapping and polygraph tests on suspects without their consent. The narco-analysis test is yet to be established as a reliable tool.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights has declared itself against self-incrimination as one has the right to be silent. This has been incorporated into our Constitution. The narco analysis test is an unproven and inhuman experiment conducted by less trained personnel. The much-abused test is certainly an intrusion into the privacy of an individual. Coming down on this practice, the court has restored one of the most important human rights of right to privacy to its highest level of dignity.
