A sentence in the third paragraph of an article “Breeding intolerance will delay development” (Op-Ed, June 6, 2008) was “Asked why he and members of his group were so upset, he said they did not like the tone of the editorial written by Mr. Ketkar in Loksatta about the proposed statue of Shivaji that the Maharashtra government out at sea, a la Statue of Liberty.” It was an editing error. It should have been “When asked why he and members of his group were so upset, he said they did not like the tone of the editorial written by Mr. Ketkar in Loksatta about the proposed statue of Shivaji that the Maharashtra government plans to build out at sea, a la Statue of Liberty.” The caption of the accompanying photograph in a report “Bandh hits life in West Bengal” (Some early editions, June 6, 2008) was “Aftermath of the Hike: The Howrah Bridge in Kolkata wears a deserted look during a 12-hour bandh called by the West Bengal Left Front in protest against the hike in prices of petroleum products, on Thursday.” It was an editing error, rectified in later editions. The caption read as “Aftermath of the Hike: The Howrah station in Kolkata wears a deserted look ….” (The report was titled “West Bengal comes to a standstill”.) In an article “Is India a superpower of poverty?” (Op-Ed, June 5, 2008), the expansion of the NFI (in the seventh paragraph) was given as the National Foundation of India. It should have been the National Foundation for India. (It is an autonomous, professionally managed trust that works for the disadvantaged communities to help them improve their own lives.)
