That a resourceful State has been thrown into the political turmoil of instability by six governments in eight years speaks volumes of the misuse of power by dominant political parties and their leaders (“A dream gone sour,” Jan. 20). The Union Cabinet has done the right thing by placing Jharkhand under President’s rule.

The purpose of carving out Jharkhand from Bihar has done the State no good. Its instability should serve as a lesson to all those who want to carve out independent States from different regions.

Ever since it was created, Jharkhand has been facing instability which has hampered the development of the mineral rich State. In comparison, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand have fared well. Vested interests have succeeded in relegating development to the back seat in Jharkhand.
