China deserves applause for organising the Olympics in an immaculate manner. India, too, has reason to celebrate as it won its first individual gold medal and two bronze medals in not-so-popular games. This should serve as a signal to the Indian Olympic Association to encourage players from different sports.

All that is needed is to sharpen and transform such talent and bring it on a par with international standards.
