If at all Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa is sensitive, he has to respect the Supreme Court and submit his resignation, said the former Minister T.B. Jayachandra here on Saturday.

The Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee on Friday declared “illegal” the mining done by the Reddy brothers through three leases in Obulapuram mines in the Bellary reserved forest area, and recommended that the licences be cancelled and exemplary costs recovered from them.

Mr. Jayachandra told presspersons that the Congress would urge the State Government to order an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into illegal mining. The Opposition, during the Assembly session on Monday, would demand the resignation of the Chief Minister and the Reddy brothers of Bellary.

The Krishna Tribunal has ordered Karnataka to use 360 tmcft of water from the Krishna which will benefit central Karnataka districts, including Tumkur.

He said that in zilla panchayats where no party had gained majority, the Congress would have a tie-up with the Janata Dal (S) so that the BJP does not gain control of those panchayats.
