KHAMMAM: CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury has demanded that United States Ambassador David Mulford be recalled for warning India against voting for Iran.

Addressing a rally of the Democratic Youth Federation of India here on Friday, Mr. Yechury said the Manmohan Singh Government should insist for the recall of the envoy without succumbing to his diktat.

He said the public warning of the Ambassador was in violation of diplomatic propriety; the foreign policy of a sovereign country would be in line with its stated stand and it was not something to be changed for the sake of U.S. interests.

He took exception to the caution sounded by the Congress at its plenary session to the United Progressive Alliance partners against crossing the limits of constructive criticism. The Congress should draw the "Lakshman Rekha" for itself, he said.

The UPA would be able to provide a stable government only by implementing its common minimum programme.

The moves to privatise public sector undertakings, even which were doing well, would be opposed. It would affect the sections enjoying reservations, he said.

He favoured reservations in the private sector, especially in educational institutions.

The DYFI organised a rally in the town marking the commencement of its State-level conference.

Senior party leader and MLA Thammineni Veerabhadram took part in the rally.
