THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the next 20 years, half of the country's population would be living in cities. Urbanisation is turning the villages into crowded cities. Development, by the year 2030, would essentially mean a shelter, safe drinking water provision and poverty eradication, T. N. Seema, MP, has said

Inaugurating World Red Cross Day observance organised by the State branch of the Indian Red Cross Society and St. John Ambulance Association here to Tuesday, she said the Red Cross should extend its activities by going into the midst of people and helping out with the basic needs.

She also promised that funds for purchasing a water tank lorry for helping out public in areas facing water scarcity in the city would be allocated for the Red Cross Society from the MP's Local Area Development Scheme.

Prizes were given away to students who were the winners in the various competitions organised as part of the World Red Cross Day.
