NEW DELHI: The Congress Party on Monday said that former Home Minister L.K. Advani should have resigned for being kept in the dark about the release of hardcore terrorists in the IC 814 hijacking case as he has claimed in his recently released book, “My Country, My Life.”

Congress general secretary and Working Committee member Digvijay Singh said: “If what Mr. Advani said is a fact, then any other Home Minister would have resigned. The very fact that Mr. Advani did not, shows that either he was not concerned or he was speaking a lie. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the then External Affairs Minister, Jaswant Singh, owe it to the nation to come out on record with whether Mr. Advani is speaking the truth or not.”

Mr. Singh said the Congress will expose the “doublespeak” of the BJP, and Mr. Advani in particular, in its publicity campaigns.

“If what Mr. Advani says, about such a big decision involving the release of hardcore terrorists, is not a fact then the PM-in-waiting is misleading the country through falsehood, which shows the character of the party.”

Expressing wonder over Mr. Advani’s several statements absolving himself of any responsibility in key matters, party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi remarked that the BJP leader’s autobiography was literally “hagiography.”
