Principal Chief Judicial Magistrate A. Vijayan has issued a non-bailable warrant against Sri Gangadharendra Swami of the Sonda Swarnavalli Math in Sirsi in connection with a case against activists of Students Federation of India (SFI).
The court, while expressing displeasure over the seer’s absence during proceedings in the case despite repeated summons, has instructed the Superintendent of Police of Kolar to serve the non-bailable warrant on the seer.
A case has been registered against SFI district unit president V. Ambarish and its functionaries T. Subramani, C. Amaresh, N.N. Sriram, N. Ambarish and Sandeep based on a complaint filed by Vishwa Hindu Parishat leader Nanjunda Shreshthi.
It was alleged that the SFI functionaries obstructed a Bhagavad Gita Abhiyan programme, introduced in educational institutions in the State, and insulted the seer as well as the Bhagavad Gita at the Government Pre University College for Girls here on July 6, 2011.
