AHMEDABAD: Union Textile Minister Shankarsinh Waghela on Thursday ended his 52-hour fast against the alleged relaxation in the Gujarat Government's prohibition policy.
Mr. Waghela, who launched his fast on Gandhi Nirvan Day on January 30, and 28 other Congress volunteers from various Gandhian institutions were offered lime juice by the Mahant of the Saryudasji temple.
Addressing a youth rally, State Congress president Bharat Solanki said the party would take it up as a mission to spread Gandhian values to every corner in Gujarat.
He claimed that the implementation of Gandhian ideologies in the State was tardy ever since the BJP assumed power.
Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Arjun Modhvadia, who ended a 24-hour fast at Porbandar on Wednesday, ridiculed the Government's claim of "a flood of foreign investments" in the State. He claimed that by relaxing prohibition in 35 Special Economic Zones, the State Government was trying to make the entire State free of prohibition through the backdoor.
