NEW DELHI: The Union Home Ministry has ordered withdrawal of security cover given to about 100 persons, including senior bureaucrats and police officials under the ‘Y’ category. Home Ministry sources said the file was cleared by Home Minister P.Chidambaram , the day he left on an official visit to the U.S. It is learnt that among those whose security cover was withdrawn were Uttarakhand Governor Margret Alva, who will be provided security by the State government, the former National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO) chief R.S. Bedi, Delhi Police’s Special Commissioner Neeraj Kumar and Uttar Pradesh politician D.P. Yadav.

With the latest exercise, about 900 personnel will be freed from such duties and be available for normal policing.
