The trial in the December 16 gang rape case commenced on Tuesday with the 28-year-old male friend of the girl, who was brutally gang-raped in a moving bus, testifying before a special fast track court here. The young man, who is the complainant and is a software engineer by profession, came to the courtroom in a wheelchair.
Beside the complainant, three other prosecution witnesses were also summoned to depose in the case.
The media has been restrained from reporting on court proceedings. The girl died on December 29, 2012, in a Singapore hospital as a result of the grievous injuries she suffered when she was sexually assaulted by six persons, one of them a juvenile.
On Monday, the Delhi Police filed its supplementary charge sheet, which included the post-mortem report of the girl.
On February 2, all the five adult accused in the case pleaded not guilty to the charges framed against them and sought trial. The charges framed against them include murder, gang rape, attempt to murder, unnatural offences, dacoity, conspiracy and kidnapping.
