The court trying the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case examined K.P. Naveen Das, a Tata Consultancy Services employee, whose van was used by the assailants for the murder.

In his deposition, Mr. Das of Thalassery said he had rented the Toyota Innova van to P.V. Rafeeq, 18th accused, through his friend Rijeesh on April 25, 2012.

He was given Rs.31,000, a blank cheque of the Kodiyeri Cooperative Service Bank, a stamp paper and a copy of Rafeeq’s driving licence.

C.P. Haris, through whom the vehicle was handed over to Rafeeq, was examined in court on Friday. Defence counsel did not cross-examine him saying they were not prepared for it.

The prosecution gave up examining Rijeesh, who is now in Qatar, and V.K. Zakaria, the driver who had brought the car to New Mahe for handing the vehicle over to Rafeeq.

The trial will continue on Tuesday.
