The Uttarakhand government on Friday recommended a CBI probe into the alleged disappearance of Swami Shankar Dev, founder of Divya Yog Mandir Trust, Haridwar, and guru of yoga guru Swami Ramdev.

Disclosing this here, Principal Secretary (Home) Vinita Kumar said that as no clue was found, the assistance of the CBI had been sought under Section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act 1946.

Swami Shankar Dev had gone missing from the ashram and his disciple Acharya Balkrishna lodged a complaint on July 14, 2007, at thana Kankhal, Haridwar. The local police drew a blank and closed the file, filing a final report on April 10, 2012.

Several of Swami Ramdev’s detractors, including local holy men and teerth purohits, had been repeatedly demanding a probe into the disappearance, suspecting foul play.
