Uttar Pradesh Principal Secretary (Home) R.M. Srivastava was on Tuesday taken into custody on court directives for failing to comply with its order to provide security to a former Minister, Ramveer Upadhyaya. The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court also framed contempt charges against the senior IAS officer, who has been given time till Wednesday to file his response.

Following the order passed by Justice Satish Chandra, Central Reserve Police Force personnel cordoned off court number 7, where Mr. Srivastava was held in custody. He was released after a few hours.

On a plea by Mr. Upadhyaya, the court had directed the government to provide him security according to norms but the order was not complied with.
