Political parties have started consultations to select candidates for the urban local body elections.
Congress observers Motamma, D. Made Gowda and Mallige Veeresh visited Hassan on Thursday and held meetings with local leaders. Similar meetings were held by leaders of the BJP and the Janata Dal (Secular).
Ms. Motamma told journalists that the party was confident of her party’s prospect as it had conducted many programmes to strengthen the organisation. The party had sent its observers to districts to monitor the preparations and finalise candidates for the elections.
Hassan District Congress Committee president B. Shivaram said the party would select candidates keeping in mind their political background, positions held, experience and service to the party. Mr. Gowda, Mr. Veeresh and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee secretary S.M. Anand were present at the press conference.
