The United Kingdom Government has agreed in principle to assist the power utilities in achieving energy efficiency in core sectors like agriculture, industry and domestic sectors.
UK Minister for Energy and Climate Change Sandip Verma promised cooperation in the form of technical support, latest technology and knowledge sharing by UK firms on energy efficiency measures.
The UK Minister gave this assurance to Chief Secretary P.K. Mohanty during a meeting convened by the Confederation of Indian Industry at the Godrej Green Business Centre here on Saturday.
Accordingly, a team of experts in the field of energy efficiency and energy savings would be deputed to the State to exchange information about the comprehensive demand side management being practiced in the UK for over two decades. The UK delegation was explained about the initiatives launched by the State Energy Conservation Mission on improving energy efficiency and preventing wastage by involving stakeholders concerned.
The SECM, according to a press release, focussed attention on motivating district energy conservation committees headed by the respective collectors for taking up periodic energy audits and designing specific action plans for conservation of energy. The Government had directed the Industries department to consider incentives to energy efficient industries even as a proposal for setting up smart grid was under examination.
