A two-year-old leopard was found on a farm in Erekatte village in Shikaripur taluk on Monday. The leopard, which was reportedly sick, died soon after.

Shekharappa, a resident of the village, found the leopard, on his farm on Monday morning. The animal was reportedly unable to move.

Futile effort

The Forest Department was immediately alerted. However, by the time the forest staff tried to capture the animal it had died.

Conservator of Forests Brijesh told The Hindu over the telephone that the leopard had wandered without food for some days and it was dehydrated.

The animal's inability to hunt either due to inexperience or sickness was the reason for its death, he said.
