18 kg ganja seized

An inter-State ganja cartel has been busted following the arrest of two persons on Monday and seizure of 18 kgs of ganja from them, the Kollam East police have claimed.

Sub inspector G. Gopakumar gave the identities of the two as Jaganathan, 40, native of Andipetti in Theni district of Tamil Nadu, and Kallan Kumar alias Kallan, 49, of Chengalchoola in Thiruvananthapuram city.

The arrest was following a tip-off that City Police Commissioner Debesh Kumar Behera received a few days ago about the arrival of the duo in Kollam for supplying ganja to two notorious drug peddlers in the city. Mr. Gopakumar said the suspects were one of the main sources of ganja supply in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta districts.

Jaganathan, a post graduate, had allegedly been a ganja dealer since the past 10 years based in Nagerkovil. He was once arrested 10 years ago. Assistant Commissioner of Police B. Krishna Kumar, who supervised the arrests, said the arrested men were the main source of ganja supply to peddlers based at Thiruvananthapuram city, Vizhinjam harbour area, Kovalam, Varkala, Neendakara port, Pallithottam aand Addor and various colonies the three districts.

Mr. Gopakumar said following interrogations the two had given details about 150 peddlers to whom they supply ganja. They source the ganja mainly from Andhra Pradesh and Orissa. The police also seized four mobile phones from Jaganathan. Circle inspector S. Shereef said Kumar was wanted by the Thiruvananthapuram city police in over 20 cases.
