A day after the tragic accident that took the lives of eight people in Belur, two accidents involving Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation buses were reported from the district on Wednesday.
A bus slipped into a roadside ditch near Mattigodu near Konanur in Araklgud taluk in the morning. A few among the 24 passengers in the bus suffered minor injuries. They were treated at the government hospital in Konanur. The road had become slippery following recent rain.
In a similar incident, another bus travelling from Sakleshpur to Vadur overturned when it entered a coffee estate after the driver lost control over the vehicle on Tuesday evening. A few passengers suffered minor injuries.
Meanwhile, people and students hit the streets in Sakleshpur, Belur and Arehalli in Belur taluk on Wednesday blaming the authorities for Tuesday’s accident. Student outfits and pro-Kannada organisations took out a protest rally in Belur demanding construction of retaining walls alongside the tank to avoid such instances in future.
The bandh call given by pro-Kannada organisations in Sakleshpur and Arehalli village evoked a good response. Shopkeepers closed their shops and students participated in a protest march in large numbers. Schools and colleges in the district were closed for the day. Many people who were not aware of the bandh faced difficulty in reaching their destinations as buses did not ply on the roads.
