Two persons were burnt alive when a farmhouse in which they were asleep caught fire at Shegunashi village in Babaleshwar police station limits in the early hours of Thursday.

The police identified the dead as Kashibai Ravutappa Roogi and Bagavva Ravutappa Roogi.

In-charge Superintendent of Police F.A. Trasgar, who visited the spot, told mediapersons that a boy, Sunil Roogi, who was also in the farmhouse had sustained burns and had been admitted to hospital. His condition is said to be stable.

He said that household articles, foodgrains, 20 grams of gold jewellery and Rs. 7,000 in cash were destroyed in the fire.

The police are yet to ascertain the reason for the fire. A case has been registered.
