Truckers say ‘no’ to detour

Refusing to take a detour along the Jessami-Ukhrul mountain road citing security concerns, drivers of Manipur-bound trucks and buses, stranded near Kohima, have declined to ply their vehicles. A few hundred vehicles have been stranded near the Nagaland capital following a landslip along the Highway 2 on July 13. The drivers have been demanding security escorts, claiming that tribal militants are ruling the roost along the Jessami road. The truckers say they are forced to pay road, goods and godown taxes to the armed groups. — Iboyaima Laithangbam
