Tirunelveli – Dadar tri-weekly express was flagged off from the Tirunelveli railway junction on Thursday. S. S. Ramasubbu, MP, flagged off the extended service of the Yesvantpur-Dadar Chalukya Express in the presence of A. K. Rastogi, Divisional Railway Manager, V. Ajith Kumar, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, and T. P. M. Maidheen Khan, Tirunelveli MLA.
The decked up express train left the junction at 2.45 p.m.
The 11017/11018 Dadar-Yesvantpur-Dadar Chalukya Express has been extended to Tirunelveli on three days a week – on Monday, Thursday and Friday.
While briefing the media, Mr. Rastogi said electrification of track between Koodal Nagar and Kanyakumari was expected to be completed by December and it would become operational by March 2013.
Mr. Ramasubbu said the new rail service was a bonanza for the people of southern region, especially Tirunelveli. With good rail connectivity, trade development would be furthered in Tirunelveli. He appealed to the Divisional Railway Manager to make it a daily service.
The train will stop at Vanchi Maniyachi, Kovilpatti, Sattur, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Dindigul, Karur, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Hosur, Banaswadi, Yeswantpur, Tumkur, Tiptur, Arsikere, Kadur, Birur, Davangere, Harihar, Ranibennur, Haveri, Hubli, Dharwar, Alnavar, Londa, Belgaum, Ghatpraba, Kudachi, Miraj, Sangli, Takari, Karad, Satara, Pune, Lonavala and Kalyan.
Mayor Vijila Sathyanath, S.T. Ramalingam, Senior Divisional Operations Manager, Govindappa Raju, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, S. Deivakani, Station Manager, members of Divisional Rail Users Consultative Committee M. Piramanayagam, N. Jegadesan, S. Chandramouli and representatives of various trade bodies attended the function.
