After coming to power, the Trinamool Congress is afraid to request a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the Saradha scam, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Surya Kanta Mishra alleged here on Monday.

Dr. Mishra claimed that the ruling party was trying to delay a probe as it had a “lot to hide.” The Trinamool Congress, when in Opposition in the Assembly, used to demand a CBI probe on all and sundry issues, he charged.

When the Left Front was in power, it never opposed a CBI probe wherever necessary as it “had the moral courage” to face an investigation. It only objected to a CBI probe when it was used to encroach upon the State government’s jurisdiction in matters relating to the maintaining of law and order, he said. Asked about the recent meeting between Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy and suspended MP Kunal Ghosh, Dr. Mishra said the “ruling party is in a tough spot due to the repeated interrogations of its members by investigative agencies.”

Mr. Ghosh has been interrogated twice by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and eight times by the officials of the Bidhannagar police station investigating the Saradha scam.
