In a heart-rending tragedy, four members of a marriage party, including the bride, were crushed to death by a lorry being driven by the bride’s father at Ramannagudem in Aswaraopet mandal in the wee hours of Thursday. Four others sustained multiple injuries.

All the deceased hailed from Sunnapuraigudem of T. Narasapuram mandal in West Godavari district. Tragedy struck the marriage party hours before the wedding slated for Thursday morning at Ramannagudem.

The bride and her relatives arrived at the village in the lorry driven Edama Rama Rao, the bride’s father, in the small hours of the day. They alighted from the vehicle on the outskirts of the village and started walking towards the venue of the marriage.

Rama Rao was following them in the vehicle.

The lorry went out of control after the brakes failed and rammed into the marriage party, killing the bride, Latha (20), her elder sister G. Kumari ( 27), and Kumari’s son Shivaji (4), their close relative Durgamma (55), on the spot.

Shattered

Heart-rending scenes were witnessed at the site of the accident as Rama Rao wailed in front of the bodies of his two daughters and his grandson.
