The Telangana Praja Front (TPF) has alleged that one of its activists Tatipamula Ramesh was harassed by police on the charge of links with CPI (Maoist) at Narsampet in Warangal district.

The police extracted a confessional statement from Mr. Ramesh with the aim to use it against him in future, Civil Liberties leader G. Haragopal and a TPF office-bearer told a press conference here on Thursday.

Mr. Haragopal asked how the harassment of Maoist sympathisers in public life was justified as everybody has a right to faith in a political party, in a democracy. The struggle for separate Telangana was two-dimensional – one is political and the other through movements.

The government was trying to crush the movement by use of force against activists.

It will continue even after Telangana got its Statehood, he alleged.

Appeal to TJAC

Mr. Haragopal urged the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) to take the incident involving Mr. Ramesh as a challenge to the Statehood issue.

Front president A. Bhoomaiah said Mr. Ramesh was arrested and released after the confessional statement was taken from him.
