Imported from Germany at a cost of Rs. 2.50 crore
TIRUNELVELI: Aravind Eye Care System, offering quality eye care to entire southern Tamil Nadu, has established the ‘Zyoptix Centre’, imported from Germany at the cost of Rs. 2.50 crore, at Aravind Eye Hospital here to take the vision treatment with laser to the next level.
With Zyoptix, treatment is designed specifically to detect and treat even the very small vision errors. Each Zyoptix assessment involves an extra diagnostic (screening) process to let the surgeon understand the vision of the patient better and select the most suitable treatment. Zyoptix patients, who undergo virtually painless treatment, had lesser problems with ‘night driving’.
Zyoptix software combines data from two different types of diagnostic equipment and then programmes the laser with the unique treatment required for the patient.
Data is also collected from a measurement of the patient’s optical system using the advanced Wavefront technology, which is not normally taken in the Standard LASIK treatments.
The Wavefront technology provides the most technologically advanced measurement - not only standard visual measurement, but also of scattered light errors known as ‘aberrations’. This technology measures the patient’s vision patterns and thus allows the surgeon to plan the treatment that exactly matches the individual vision errors.
Inaugurating the facility on Monday, District Collector M. Jayaraman said the revolutionary eye care system established by the Aravind Eye Hospital, which was offering excellent eye care at affordable cost to thousands of patients, particularly rural masses, would be a boon to the people in the southern districts of Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Tuticorin.
“We’ve imported and installed this equipment here (at Tirunelveli) with the objective of ensuring superior quality eye care systems to the people here at affordable cost,” said P. Namperumalsamy, chairman of Aravind Eye Care System, Madurai.
Consultant, Aravind Eye Car System, R. Meenakshi gave a comprehensive introduction about Zyoptix.
