To properly implement the scheme of distributing free rice through PDS

The District Revenue Officer and Collector-in-charge of Vellore district, E. Saravanavelraj has issued orders appointing zonal coordinators in the rank of Deputy Collectors in all nine taluks to properly implement the scheme of distributing rice free of cost under the public distribution system (PDS) to all eligible card-holders in Vellore district from June one.

Presiding over a consultation meeting held to issue instructions to civil supplies and revenue officials on the implementation of the Chief Minister's free rice distribution scheme at the Collectorate here on Friday, Mr. Saravanavelraj said that 7,97,421 family card holders in the district were eligible to get rice under the PDS, while 1,09,730 card-holders were eligible to get 35 kg of rice under the Anthyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) scheme. The family card-holders eligible for rice supply would be distributed rice free of cost as per their eligibility, while the AAY beneficiaries would be supplied 35 kg rice free of cost every month.

The Collector-in-charge advised the officials to move sufficient quantities of rice to all the fair price shops before May 30 so as to commence the distribution of free rice from June one. There were 1209 full-time fair price shops and 515 part-time shops in the district. He asked the officials to display prominently the message that rice would be distributed free of cost, in all fair price shops.

Thiruguna Ayyappadurai, Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies, S. Santha, District Supply Officer, the Deputy Registrar (PDS), the Regional Manager of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation, all taluk supply officers and cooperative sub-registrars participated.
