Youth brigade takes up non-policing work

Upon completion of training , the newly-recruited members of the Tamil Nadu Special Police Youth Brigade have been assigned works in police offices in Tiruchi, Perambalur and other districts in the central zone to assist law enforcers in non-policing activities.

Attired in white shirt and pant, the young members have been entrusted with different types of works such as computer operations, delivery of court summonses currently with police help, delivery of letters from district police office to police headquarters and back, and day-to-day administrative works.

The brigade members, who underwent four-week basic training in wireless communication, driving, and law subject, were also being utilised in police stations. The number of youth brigade members in Tiruchi and Perambalur districts alone exceeds 350.

The brigade members have been recruited primarily to assist in various non-policing activities with a view to utilising police personnel in their primary tasks of maintenance of law and order and carrying out investigations.

Every member of the brigade would be paid an honorarium of Rs. 7,500 per month and could avail canteen facilities available to police personnel.

The youth brigade is also proposed to be utilised for election duty along with non-police personnel such as Home Guards, ex-servicemen, and personnel of Fire and Rescue Services and Forest Departments.
