TIRUNELVELI: Police have arrested a youth for forging the documents to get a passport and subsequently get a lucrative employment in a Gulf country.
Police said Superintendent of Police Asra Garg recently received an e-mail stating that C. Selvakumar (42) of Ilanji near Courtallam took the ration card of Sulaiman of Tenkasi and applied for a passport in the name of Sulaiman's son S. Abdul Majid since he believed that Muslims could get employment in the Gulf Countries quite easily.
Subsequently, Selvakumar got the passport on March 26, 1997 and also an employment in Saudi Arabia.
Following this shocking revelation, a special police team, designated by Mr. Asra Garg to probe this fraud, found that the information received through the e-mail was true and the immigration officials of Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram airports were alerted.
Since Selvakumar, who had already gone to Saudi Arabia four times with the passport, was about to leave for the Gulf country via Bahrain by a flight from Thiruvananthapuram airport at 5.30 a.m. on March 3, 2010, he was nabbed by the immigration officials and the passport confiscated.
“Obtaining passport by using forged or fake documents is a serious offence and the errant passport holders will have to face very serious and stern action... Anybody who comes to know about any crime may pass on the information to me through email@example.com. Identity of the informers will not be revealed to anybody at any circumstance,” Mr. Asra Garg noted.
