The Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), Mahendragiri, proposed to conduct elocution and essay competitions in Tamil and English for high and higher secondary school students (from 8th to 12th standard) in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts as part of the World Space Week celebrations to be organised between October 4 and 10.
According to Administrative Officer, LPSC, G. Boopathi, the centre would conduct the competitions in which the students can express their views on this year's topics in Tamil and English. Topics for elocution competition (5 minutes) are ‘Space tourism’ (for students of 8th, 9th and 10th standards) and ‘Space exploration – manned or robotic?’ (for students of 11th and 12th standards).
For essay competition, the topics are ‘Colonization of Mars’ (for students of 8th, 9th and 10th standards) and ‘Discovering earth through space research’ (for students of 11th and 12th standards).
Only one student can participate in each category from each school with the authorising letter from the head of the institution and the participants should register their names through their schools on or before October 1 with ‘Administrative Officer, LPSC, Mahendragiri (post), Tirunelveli – 627 133’.

While the participants in the essay competition may take help from their parents and teachers in collecting the resource materials, the final essay should be written by the student. A certificate from the head of the institution should accompany each entry, which should be attested by the head of the school.
The covering letter accompanying the entry should have details such as name of the participant, age, class in which the student is studying, school address and residential address with contact phone number and STD code.
The essays in Tamil or English with 2,000 words should be neatly handwritten by the participant on one side of A4 size paper.
Entries should be sent to ‘The Administrative Officer, LPSC, Mahendragiri (post), Tirunelveli – 627 133’ on or before September 20.
