Ramanathapuram Collector tells students to grow trees

RAMANATHAPURAM: A photo exhibition on wildlife and nature and planting of tree saplings marked the World Environment Day celebration organised jointly by the Gulf of Mannar Marine National Park and Gulf of Mannar Bioreserve Trust at St. Joseph’s Primary School here on Friday.

The Collector, R. Vasuki, who declared open the exhibition, urged the students to grow trees and desist from using materials that polluted the environment.

K.A. Senthilvelan, Superintendent of Police, inaugurated planting of saplings on the school premises.

Aruna Basu Sarkar, Chief Conservator of Forests, emphasised the need to plant more trees and avoid the use of plastic that endangered the environment.

H. Malleshappa, Conservator of Forests, welcomed the gathering and V. Naganathan, Eco Development Officer, proposed a vote of thanks.

The exhibition will be open for school students till June 10, according to an official press release.
