The Department of Social Work, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchi, in collaboration with the Department of Social Work and Human Services, James Cook University, Australia, and Karl Kubel Institute of Development Education (KKID), Coimbatore, initiated a three-day residential workshop on scientific writing and publication at the Institute on Thursday.
Inaugurating the workshop, the Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University, K.Meena, explained the advantages inherent in grasping online technology adopted for retrieving processed information stored in central data banks.
She referred to the dictum ‘publish or perish’ to drive home the importance of scientific writing and presentation. The university will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with James Cook University for faculty and student exchange programmes, the Vice-Chancellor added. Abraham Francis, Lecturer, Department of Social Work in Human Services, James Cook University, endorsed the idea of the Vice-Chancellor for the MoU while orienting the participants on the need to develop scientific writing skill.
Nonie Harris, Senior Lecturer and Course Coordinator, Department of Social Work and Human Services, James Cook University; P.Ilango, Professor and Head, Department of Social Work, Bharathidasan University; and N.Rajavel, Organising Secretary and Assistant Professor, also addressed the 35 participants comprising social work faculty and young research scholars pursuing M.Phil and Ph.D. in Social Work.
