The stakeholders, including governments have been urged to overcome the shortages found in the phase I of the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewable Mission (JNNURM).

Speaking at the workshop for southern States, Suresh Rohilla, Programme Director, Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi, said the objective of JNNURM phase II was to improve energy efficiency in water management. The National Water Mission had also come out with a set of measures to promote the concept. Hence, the officials should incorporate the mission objectives while preparing Detailed Project Reports for JNNURM schemes.

Nidhi Pasi, Programme Officer, said that most of the projects implemented in JNNURM phase I could not be completed within the stipulated time period by the implementing agencies and many did not even achieve the target of the mission. More importance should be given to the concepts of recycling and reusability.

Puducherry PWD secretary P.R. Meena inaugurated the workshop.
