The work to widen and strengthen Taramani Link Road is to resume soon with World Bank, which is funding the project, set to accept the request of Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) for extension of the deadline for completion by two years. The project, which is important for improving connectivity between Velachery and Rajiv Gandhi Salai, was originally scheduled to get over in March 2011. The CMDA, which had sought and got an extension till March 2012, now wants two more years for finishing the works. The request was made a few months ago. The works are part of the comprehensive urban transportation project of Chennai Metropolitan Area undertaken by the State government with World Bank assistance, under Tamil Nadu Urban Development Project III (TNUDP-III).
