Two new platforms being constructed
SALEM: The railway is constructing a new yard for loading and unloading of goods near the Goods Shed in Old Sooramangalam in Salem.
The work was being carried out as a part of the initiatives taken up to improve the Salem Railway Junction and other railway facilities in the city. Officials said that the new yard would have a length of 620 metres. This would facilitate the parking of 40 wagons at a time in the yard for loading/unloading.
Once completed, the new yard would benefit the industrial units and the traders in the district. The workers could carry out the loading and unloading processes quickly.
Besides, the railway administration had also taken up the construction of two new platforms. Officials said that they had already completed 30 per cent of the works. The new platforms and the yard would be ready in a few months, they added.
