In first phase, office rooms and meeting halls will be constructed
COIMBATORE: Civil works for common facilities at two foundry parks have commenced and these are to be completed in three or four months.
The works are carried out under the Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation Project for Pumps, Motors and Foundry Industry here by the Coimbatore Industrial Infrastructure Association (COINDIA).
''The association will create common facilities at three proposed foundry parks here, which will benefit over 200 tiny and small units. These will be at Arasur, Kallapalayam and Manikkampalayam,'' says COINDIA President, G. Rajendran.
While works have already commenced at Arasur and Kallapalayam, it will be taken up at Manikkampalayam too soon.
In the first phase, facilities such as roads, office rooms, meeting halls will be constructed apart from raw material testing laboratory, creche, weigh bridges and canteen at a total cost of Rs. 7 crores.
The parks are planned by the foundry associations - the Coimbatore Tiny and Small Foundry Owners' Association and the Coimbatore Foundry Industries Owners' Association.
Lands have been allotted to the COINDIA to develop the common facilities. The objective is to help the tiny and small foundries modernise and use state-of-the-art facilities.
The parks will have some units relocating to the new premises, new projects and expansion units.
A release from the Coimbatore Tiny and Small Foundry Owners' Association says that the association has appealed to the State Government to grant assistance to the project.
