Functioning of Central government offices was severely hit in the district on Wednesday as the majority of employees in postal, income tax and a few other departments, observed a one-day strike to press for their charter of demands.

The employees, under the aegis of the Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers, wanted immediate constitution of seventh pay commission, reintroduction of old pension scheme by scrapping the present contributory pension scheme and filling up of vacancies in different departments, among other demands.

The striking staff pointed out that the day’s strike was only token and they would continue pressing for their demands till Central Government accepts them.
