Rs. 30 crore allotted for creating basic infrastructure

SALEM: Levelling of ground at the site identified for the establishment of Information Technology park along Bangalore National Highways here has begun on Friday.

The district administration deployed two bulldozers, two earthmovers and more than 100 workers to carry out the levelling work.

Collector N. Mathivanan, after inspecting the site, said that the district administration had selected 164.26 acres for the IT Park and handed over to Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT).

Officials from the agricultural engineering, revenue, Salem Corporation, ELCOT, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and National Highways Authority of India were carrying out the preliminary works. More number of earthmovers and personnel would be deputed for these works shortly, the Collector said.

Officials said that the State Government allotted Rs. 30 crore for creating basic infrastructure including drinking water provisions, communication networks and roads at the sites selected for creating IT parks in various parts in the State including Salem, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchi and Tirunelveli.

District Revenue Officer M. Rajarathinam, Revenue Divisional Officer Khaja Mohaideen, Executive Engineer, Agricultural Engineering, S. Arivazhagan and senior officials were present.

Meanwhile, a press release said the ELCOT had appointed N.M. Kumar as Business Development Manager of Salem IT Park. After the completion of the levelling work, the ELCOT would carry out a survey and create a building plan.
