VELLORE: Law Minister Durai Murugan inaugurated the new women’s hostel block of Voorhees College in the DeBoer Hostel premises of the college in Officers’ Line here on Thursday. Presiding over a function organised by the Students’ Forum of the college in connection with the birth centenary celebrations of C.N. Annadurai, former Chief Minister, at the college premises, Rev. Y. William, Bishop of the Church of South India (CSI) Vellore Diocese and the chairman of the Governing Council of the college said that it was appropriate that the women’s hostel was inaugurated along with the celebration of Annadurai’s birth centenary, since Annadurai was a strong votary of women’s education. He said that the hostel block was built at a total cost of Rs. 35 lakh, which comprised a University Grants Commission grant of Rs. 15 lakh, and the college’s own contribution of Rs. 20 lakh.
