Four women, who allegedly stole gold ornaments under the guise of enquiring at a shop here on Thursday, were arrested.

According to police sources, the women went to AVR Swarnamahal on Car Street and said that they wanted to buy gold bangles. After looking at several pairs, they tried to leave without making any purchase.

Meanwhile, a salesman found two pairs of bangles missing and stopped the women from moving out. closed-circuit television camera footage showed the women stealing the bangles.

They were handed over to Tiruvannamalai town police, which arrested them.

They were identified as Malar (35), Pandiyammal (45), Nagammal (35) and Nagalakshmi (36), all from Aavarampatti near Dindigul.
