CHENNAI: A woman who offered to help some visibly aggrieved women at the Stanley Medical College and Hospital here was cheated on Tuesday.

Police said A. Guna (25) of Vyasarpadi had gone to see a friend who was admitted in the hospital.

At the main entrance, she saw three women sobbing inconsolably. When she enquired with them, they said their relative was seriously ill and they had no money to carry out basic medical investigations.

When Guna tried to guide them to senior doctors for assistance, one of the women gave her four-sovereign chain and asked if she could give some money. Presuming that it was a gold chain, Guna gave her Rs.4,500. On reaching home, she realised that the chain was made of an ordinary metal.

The Seven Wells police have registered a case.
