CHENNAI: A 21-year-old woman, who came to Chennai after a quarrel with her husband in Karur, was allegedly kidnapped by five persons on Saturday.

However, the Elephant Gate police arrested the kidnappers and rescued the woman on Sunday.

Police said Sudha had come to Chennai by bus. On finding her alone at the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus, Koyambedu, one Baskaran enquired with her.

The woman told him about her problem and assuring her of help, he took her to a lodge on Walltax Road.

After taking telephone and mobile numbers from her, Baskaran and four of his friends called her husband and allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs 1 lakh.

Ashok Kumar (26), her husband, rushed to Chennai and met the kidnappers. When Ashok Kumar told them that he was not having enough money, the kidnappers refused to release the girl, police said.

Five rounded up

Following this, Ashok Kumar filed a complaint with the Elephant Gate police. They rounded up the five persons and rescued the woman.

College students

Police said three of the accused were college students, while another was working in a private bank.

They were arrested and remanded to judicial custody, police added.
