CHENNAI: A woman who allegedly stole 34 sovereigns of jewellery from a marriage hall on the Tondiarpet High Road was apprehended by the police on Tuesday.

According to a release, Sundarajan of Kodungaiyur lodged a complaint with the Tondiarpet police that the jewels purchased for his sister's marriage and kept in a room in the marriage hall, were stolen on February 5. A police team intercepted S. Dilshad alias Mary (38) of Madipakkam, who was moving in a suspicious manner near a marriage hall at Tondiarpet on Tuesday. During interrogation, she confessed to having committed the theft in the marriage hall. About 10 sovereigns were recovered from her.
