CHENNAI: A woman and her four-year-old son were killed in a road accident near Red Hills on Thursday.

Police said Ramachandran (32), a constable in the city, was returning from Gummidipoondi by motorcycle along with his wife, Angeline Gnanam (30) and son R. Rohit.

At the Sengundram junction, he applied sudden brakes in order to avoid hitting a buffalo which happened to be crossing the road then. As a result, his vehicle swerved and he lost control and fell. While Rohit was killed on the spot, Angeline who suffered injuries succumbed at the hospital soon after admission. The condition of Ramachandran, who did not wear a helmet at the time of the accident, was said to be critical.
